Once upon a time.. it was christmas eve..

Updated: Nov 18, 2020

A few years ago I had to travel to London for business, on behalf of the company I worked for. It was early December and I would need to stay there until about Christmas Eve in order to succeed in a professional collaboration. By the way we had arranged a family Christmas table because my sister would come for the holidays, who lives permanently abroad, after several years !

As part of my job there, I met a girl named Zanet, originally from Greece also, who was there for similar business reasons from another company of France where she was working for.We started going out, talking and spending a lot of time together. She kept telling me how excited she is that this year she spend will the holidays with her family after several years, due to professional obligations in France. And I confessed my enthusiasm for my sister that I have to see for some years! The days passed, the collaboration seemed closer and closer and it was time to go back to Greece. Janet and I had developed friendships and went to the airport for our return.

It was Christmas Eve when her phone rang and she was informed that her mother had passed away..I took her in my arms and held her hand tightly until our landing in Greece. We did not exchange conversations during the flight. She was emotionally broken. She would return back home and the most important person in her life would be absent and she would not have had time to say goodbye ...

We arrive in Athens, I hug her and say goodbye, expressing her sorrow for her loss and telling her that whenever she needs me I will be there for her. We parted, I got in a taxi to go back to my house where "my whole" family was waiting for me. I felt so grateful and on the way until I arrived I was thinking how important it is to return to the family hug! My acquaintance with Janet made me review some things and change my priorities. I could not wait for the taxi to arrive and enter the Christmas atmosphere of my house, full of ornaments and mainly full of people I adore !!

FINALLY I ARRIVED!! They were all gathered at the family table laid out, full of wonderful delicacies that smelled of musk outside. They welcomed me with the sweetest smile in the world, we hugged for a long time and I could not stop looking at them and smiling! I never told them about Janet's story, I just told them that I met a wonderful friend! I cried and my mother gave me the sweetest kiss .. !! I did not want anything to end that night. We ate, drank, talked, exchanged gifts and stayed awake until morning. It was the most beautiful day of my life and at the same time the best Christmas Eve !!

Janet and I never got lost !! We remained forever the best friends and we shared everything!

Christmas marks the end of a year. It is the holiday that we must all correct our mistakes, appreciate what we have in our lives and above all to spend it with our own family !!
I wish everyone a Merry Christmas with health, love and optimism !!!
